The Rosemount Project began in the early 1990’s with a vision that an area of Sow Clough at Rosemount could be developed into a community resource.  For years the project suffered from lack of funding but, in  2013, the Princes’ Trust was able to support development and a small but dedicated band of volunteers have met every month since then to manage the area. Then Proffitts CIC helped SCPG to obtain grants from Lancashire Environmental Fund, Newground Together and Awards for All to transform the site from a derelict area into a welcoming picnic site and woodland area which has been used by St Joseph’s School as a Forest School and by local residents as a recreation area.

opening 2On July 1 2016, Rosemount Community Woodland was opened by the Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Granville Morris.

Future plans include continuing support from LCC and RBC to develop access across the bridge so people can walk from Stacksteads to the Maden Recreation Ground in Bacup. So the work isn’t over and we’re very grateful to everyone who has helped in any way.
